Wood carving of the Last Supper in Immanuel Chapel
Description
This 10" x 8" black and white photograph shows a wood carving by Anton Lang above the altar at the Immanuel Chapel at the Immanuel Deaconess Institute. The carving is a true copy of Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper." An intricately carved wooden pattern frames the top of the scene.
Gifted to Immanuel by the Deaconesses in 1926, this wood rendering of da Vinci's "The Last Supper" decorated the altar of the Immanuel Chapel near 34th and Fowler in Omaha, Nebraska. The carving is 7 1/2 feet long and 2 1/2 feet high, with an 8 inch deep relief. It was carved by Anton Lang of Oberammergau and was purchased in Germany. In 1977, the carving was refinished and placed in the chapel of the Immanuel Fontenelle Home, where it remains.
