This black and white photograph shows Sister Nellie Peterson (left) and Sister Anna Johnson processing apples for canning. The women, wearing their white deaconess uniforms, are working in the basement kitchen on the old Immanuel Deaconess Institute campus. Two pots of peeled apples are between the women and two bowls of unprocessed apples lay behind the peeled apples. Jars of canned apples sit on a cart behind the table. Two pots are on the stove against the back wall. A stamp on the back of the photograph reads: "Donald Jack Studios, Omaha, 730 N Happy Hollow BLVD, WA. 4787".

Historical Notes
Residents and staff made an annual visit to the local apple orchard to pick apples. These apples would then be processed on campus in large amounts for the coming year.
